The Lawn- An Academic Village

An Academic Village is Thomas Jefferson’s vision for universal, free education for all scholars. We call it The Lawn. Everyone in our tribe is a scholar. But we have lots of different designs for our lives. And this is eternal. So we have lots of time to adapt and grow in community.

Boys and girls age twelve and up can live in an Academic Village. These villages are for people of all ages. For students up to eighteen you would need to live in the city where there are four colleges in the same neighborhood with both women and men or all men or all women so you can walk to different centers.

If you choose to live in an Academic Village and you need to be emancipated from your parents you can do this at the age of twelve or up. This means you have your full legal rights, but you are required to live with an adult of your choice until you are eighteen.

You can live in an Academic Village for as long as you want. It is a place where learning and nourishment and community belonging are valued like the moon and the stars and and the trees and the mountains. You are the moon and the stars and the trees and the mountains to us.

Wren programming is the programming available at some academic villages. Other villages are the different Dakon University colleges. If you are living in a neighborhood village there might be Web College, Wren College and Rootsong College that you could attend. Sea Glass College and Calico College will be within driving distance at a studio. We want to be as rich and abundant as we can with our studies and we want to thrive and be spry. This means we move around the neighborhood nell.

Each college has an Executive Director.

Curriculum Notes:

People are developing programs for music and other subjects based on Understanding How to Create your Business Kraft and the Writer’s Desk. These programs are independent study on line and in web (on the phone). You are welcome to go to clubs to see who is developing what and which programs you’d like to study.

Once we finish the facilitated programs of Wren and the Twelve Steps of Resiliency and Clutter Box and the Eat Your Colors Nutrition Series we will go into our Curriculum Response Teams at 6:30am Monday, Wednesday and Thursday. Every college student is required to keep a study journal with reflections on groups and curriculum notes that they can share in the Curriculum Response Team meetings. Then we can develop handouts as Curriculum Response Teams from all over the world to share for each group. This is a peer-led movement and we are the masters of our work. We love to nourish and fly.
